| AUTO BODY REPAIR JOB DESCRIPTION: Automotive
body and related repairers refinish and repair automotive
vehicle bodies and straighten vehicle frames; they use special
equipment to restore damaged metal frames and body sections.
Repairers chain or clamp frames and sections to alignment
machines that use hydraulic pressure to align damaged components.
SKILLS REQUIRED FOR AN AUTO BODY REPAIR CAREER:
Fully skilled automotive body repairers must have good reading
and basic mathematics and computer skills; they must follow
instructions and diagrams in technical manuals to make very
precise three-dimensional measurements of the position of
one body section relative to another; they must understand
design techniques and know how to use tools involved in production
of plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
AVAILABILITY:
In 2002, Median hourly earnings of automotive body and related repairers, including incentive pay, were $15.71. The average hourly earnings were $8.70 - $27.10.
